Day-neutral, or autoflower, cannabis cultivars are becoming more and more popular with farmers. In the past, such varieties could not compete with classical photoperiod plants. However, persistent efforts by dedicated breeders have brought forward high THC varieties that yield well and have a distinct nose as opposed to their bland ancestors. Autoflowers are easy to grow for hobbyists and allow farmers to have an extra harvest or two in a single year.
We bring the same expansive palate we offer in traditional photoperiod plants to autoflower varieties. As any breeder knows, breeding takes time, resources, and perhaps most importantly, numbers. Autoflowers speed up the breeding process by allowing for more cycles which in turn increases the chances for success.
PCG has identified a DNA based molecular marker associated with this particularly exciting phenotype. To promote further development, we have shared our findings with the cannabis breeding and research community at large. In order to create autoflower versions of our favorite PCG cultivars, we are using molecular techniques to screen populations for the autoflower trait.
