Tissue culture as a breeding tool

At PCG we are proficient in tissue culture but we prefer its usage as a breeding tool rather than production, or even worse, as a marketing gimmick. It’s important to remember that sterile agar based media is an extremely stressful environment for a plant which can result in a number of heritable changes. Using tissue culture as a breeding tool, we culture meristems in order to clean any of our prized cultivars that might have pathogens before reintroducing them into healthy soil where they can realize their potential. We also use tissue culture to regenerate any interesting phenotypes we find in large populations.
